2 Tips For Naturally Keeping Spiders Out Of Your House

If you have a problem with spiders coming into your house, you may wonder what you can do to keep them away, especially if you or someone in your household is allergic to the arachnids. If so, try one or more of the following tips for naturally keeping spiders out of your house.

1.  Keep Your Home Free from Dust and Clutter

The first thing you should do when trying to keep spiders out of your house is to start cleaning on a regular basis. Spiders prefer dark, hidden areas that are rarely disturbed, so dusty corners and piles of clutter that are never moved make ideal locations for them to set up residence and spin their webs.

Create a schedule for yourself to get rid of clutter, even if it is just working a few minutes a day. Also, thoroughly commit yourself to dusting and vacuuming at least a couple of times a week, especially in the beginning of your spider control efforts. Then, once you see a decline in your spider population, you can switch to doing the chores once a week.

2.  Clean with a Natural Spider Deterrent

Once you have gotten rid of the dust and clutter, the next thing you can do is create a natural deterrent by wiping down your counters, bathrooms, and woodwork with white distilled vinegar. The strong odor of the vinegar is unpleasant to the spiders, so they tend to stay away from it.

In a spray bottle, mix together equal parts of water and vinegar. Then, spray and wipe the surfaces in your kitchen and bathroom, as well as around your doors and windows. If you have ceiling corners in your home that tend to attract spiders, spray a little bit of the solution in these areas as well.

If you cannot stand the odor of vinegar yourself, you can also use orange oil to make a deterrent, as the spiders do not like its smell either. Use the same process as making the vinegar solution, but instead of vinegar, mix 10-15 drops of orange oil in the water.

Especially when used together, the above tips can help you minimize the number of spiders entering your home. However, if it seems that nothing you do deters the population, contact a pest control company that offers spider control services to discuss your options for getting rid of and keeping the eight-legged creeps away.
