Removing Mice From Your Home: What You Need To Know

Mice are cute when they're a cartoon on television, but a mouse in your house is much different. Mice can get into just about everything and anything in your home, build a family, and eventually build an entire colony in your home if you don't remove them fast enough. You can remove mice yourself if you're up to the work, but if your home is infested already, you may want to hire a professional. Read on for everything you need to know to remove mice from your home.

Where Are They Coming From?

Finding where the pests are coming into your home is your first step. If you aren't sure where they are coming in from, they will continue to come in and you'll never get rid of them. You need to look around your home with a flashlight and go over everything with a fine tooth comb. Mice can get into very tiny holes, so any hole you see should be repaired. Also, if you see daylight coming in around doors or windows, these can also be entrances — seal and make repairs to these areas as well.

Where Are The Pests?

Figure out where these pests are located in your home. They have probably been all over your house already, especially if you have a lot of them, but they usually have one area where they are nesting. Find these nesting areas and set traps. You can find these areas by looking for their waste, which looks like black sprinkles. You may also find torn paper or shredded cloth, which is a mouse nest.

What Traps To Use?

You can use snap traps to catch mice, or traps that will trap the mice inside (so you don't see them) and kill them, or you can use live traps. If you use live traps, you'll need to get rid of the mice far away from your home, because otherwise they will find their way back to your house. If killing the mice, you need to dispose of the dead mice properly and add new bait on the traps to catch more. Continue to bait and set the traps until you no longer find droppings around your home and aren't catching any more mice in the traps.

If you have an infestation of mice in your home, you should hire a professional who specializes in mice removal. They can carry disease and lead other pests to your home as well. Hiring a pro can get rid of these pests and prevent others from coming to your home.
